Singapore is well-known and loved for her popularity of its range of ethnic food. There are Chinese, Indian to French, Italian to Malay food locally available, which becomes an eye-opener for first-timers to our small city.

Undoubtedly, the food is one of the best things about being in Singapore. It holds no secrets that the locals eat and drink with a passion. For a newcomer, deciding where and what to eat may come across as an intimidating but exciting experience as well.

To put it simply, Singapore's multi-cultural diversity is mainly reflected on the variety of local cuisine the country offers from Chinese to Malay, Indian to Peranakan. In fact Singapore's multi-ethnic culture and heritages presents a multitude of colourful cuisines, each with its own unique flavour.

Often touted as "The Food Paradise", Singapore is a cornucopia of different cuisines where the varieties of dishes available are enough to keep one eating all the time. Regardless whether you fancy haute cuisine, ethnic foods, vegetarian or local spicy dishes, you can find several food choices on your own.

Singapore can be divided into five types of meat, seafood, rice, noodles, desserts and snacks.

Chili crab is an iconic Singaporean seafood dish. Although there are ways to cook a delicious crab, the two most famous styles are:

- Singapore crab with a spicy tomato chili sauce &

- Crab with black pepper sauce

Hainanese chicken rice is one of the locals' favourite food. It is a rice dish with juicy, steamed white chicken cut into thin pieces. It is usually served over fragrant rice with light soy sauce, topped with cilantro and sesame oil to be accompanied by a garlic-chili sauce.

Nasi Lemak is a Malay dish which is widely popular in Singapore. It is typically served with deep-fried fish or chicken wings, grilled fish paste, friend anchovies, peanuts, eggs, cucumber slices and sambal.

Roti prata is a signature Singapore food. Roti means roti or bread while prata means flat. It is a simple and tasty dish, where the pancake-like flatbread is served with a meat-based or a vegetable-based curry.

Hokkien mee is a stir-fried dish made up of a combination of rice and egg noodles. It comes with prawns, squid, oysters, spring onions and fresh lime. The dish is served with a thick and fragrant sauce made from fresh shrimp and dried prawns.

Singapore food culture is having a roti prata and teh tarik to start the day, a hearty plate of nasi lemak to fuel your afternoons and a flavourful serving of chicken rice to end the day.
