Food Matters

Fundamentally, maintaining good health and well-being is important. By eating heathily, it helps to keep a healthy weight, hence reducing risks of diabetes. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, preventing cardiovascular diseases and some cancers.

There are many other benefits of healthy eating. When we practise healthy eating, we are able to maintain a good sleep, have more energy and concentrate better which adds up to much healthier, happier lives. Therefore we get all the essential nutrients for a proper growth and development for our bodies.

In other words, active children and young people eat a well-balanced diet tend to:

- have a healthy body weight
- feel good about themselves
- more energetic, feeling more active in their social lives
- enjoy better physical and mental health

Nutrition plays an extreme role in our overall health, especially as we age. This includes our appetites, calorie needs and change in our tastes too.

One of the reasons why older adults need more protein is, because our muscle mass decreases over time as we age. Due to this decline, we need to consume more protein. In other words when we face illnesses or injuries, we require more protein to repair our bodies, thus rebuilding our skeletomuscular system.

As a matter of fact, food nourishes us of the main purpose to keep ourselves alive, thriving and enjoying life to the fullest. While managing to heal any relationship with food, it becomes an important choice to practise mindful eating. Food provides pleasure to everyone. Happiness is a chemical reaction in the brain. By setting ourselves up for fewer mood fluctuations, we are able to instill an overall happier outlook and an improved ability to focus too.
